The excitement of new clothes brought smiles to 15 children at Ghashful Foster Children Care Centre in Niamatpur, Naogaon, as they received new school uniforms on Wednesday. Some held the uniforms close, while others delighted in the familiar scent of fresh fabric.
Organised by Ghashful, the distribution was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Morsheda Khatun as chief guest and Upazila Education Officer Md. Tarikul Islam as special guest. They spent time with the children, offered guidance on education and life, and thanked Ghashful for the initiative. Ghashful was represented by SDP Officer Md. Kohinur Islam and Branch Manager Md. Shahidul Islam.
Established on 12 March 2024 in Uttarbari, Niamatpur, with guidance and support from development professional and social worker Nezbah Masud, the centre provides family-based care for orphaned and vulnerable children as an alternative to institutional care.
Beginning with 10 children in 10 foster families, the initiative now supports 15 children living with 15 families. Alongside food, healthcare and education, the children receive learning support and opportunities for sports and creative activities.
Foster parents receive regular training to help children feel loved, secure and part of a family despite the loss of their own loved ones. A team of skilled and trained staff oversees the initiative.
