Emphasizing good governance, awareness and effective action for managing the growing challenge of toxic e-waste in Bangladesh, Ms. Sadia Rahman, Deputy Director, Administration and Human Resources Department of Ghashful, spoke at a stakeholder seminar organized by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today, 21 May, in Chattogram.
In her remarks, she stated that TIB’s seminar was a very timely initiative. She also mentioned that Ghashful is highly conscious of responsible e-waste management and is interested in working more extensively in this sector in the future.
The seminar presented the findings and recommendations of TIB’s research titled “E-Waste Management in Bangladesh: Governance Challenges and Way Forward.”
The event was attended by Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB, along with representatives from the Department of Environment, Anti-Corruption Commission, Chattogram City Corporation, Chittagong Port Authority and Custom House. Academics from the University of Chittagong, leaders from the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the shipbreaking industry, civil society members and media professionals also took part in the discussion.
The discussion highlighted the importance of safe and sustainable management of e-waste and medical waste in Chattogram.
