Speakers at an event marking World Children’s Rights Week in Chattogram called for stronger collective action by families, communities, government institutions, and development organizations to ensure every child can grow up in a safe, joyful, and discrimination-free environment.
The program was held on 6 October under the theme “Let Every Child’s Future Be Protected.” The event also celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Chattogram, and was jointly organized by the Chattogram District Administration and Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Ghashful and several other development organizations participated.
In the morning, the Prime Minister joined virtually to inaugurate the nationwide programs across all 64 districts. The local event was later held at the District Commissioner’s Conference Room.
Representing children of Chattogram, Afrin Jahan Disha, an eighth-grade student of Ghashful Madarbari Paran Rahman School, delivered a heartfelt speech. She said, “Children are today’s Bangladesh, and through our hands the prosperous Bangladesh of tomorrow will be built.” She highlighted that children’s dreams—whether of becoming doctors, teachers, engineers, or scientists—depend on a safe childhood, quality education, a supportive environment, and a society filled with care.
In the second session, Bangladesh Shishu Academy celebrated its Golden Jubilee. The event was chaired by District Children Affairs Officer Md. Kawsar Ahmed. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pathan Saiduzzaman attended as Chief Guest, while Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam BPM also addressed the program.
Speaking as a Special Guest, Ghashful Deputy Director Jayanta Kumer Bosu emphasized that there is no alternative to ensuring children’s proper development and safety in building a prosperous nation. He added that creating a fearless, inclusive, and joyful environment for every child is a shared moral and social responsibility.
Representatives from development organizations, child rights groups, and the media also joined the discussion, reinforcing the need for coordinated efforts to protect children’s rights and well-being.
The event concluded with cultural performances by children from Bangladesh Shishu Academy and partner organizations. A group dance by students of Ghashful Paran Rahman School received special appreciation from the audience.
