For hundreds of young people in Chattogram, the coming days mark not just an assessment, but a significant step toward entering the workforce. After completing six months of intensive training, 279 apprentices are now undergoing final evaluation to demonstrate their skills.

The assessment, taking place from 7 to 17 June at Mahmoodunnabi Chowdhury Technical School and College in Chattogram, is being conducted under the Ghashful-RAISE (Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment) Project, implemented with support from Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).

Through this skills development initiative, participants have been trained across 12 technical trades, including beautification, tailoring and dressmaking, refrigeration and air conditioning, graphics design and multimedia, electrical installation and maintenance, welding and fabrication, motorcycle servicing, mobile phone servicing, aluminium fabrication, driving cum automechanics, small engineering, and carpentry.

The evaluation is being conducted by experienced external assessors accredited by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), who are assessing participants’ professional knowledge, technical competencies, and practical abilities in line with national standards.

Many trainees shared that the six-month training has significantly boosted their confidence and prepared them for real-world work environments. They are now optimistic about securing employment or pursuing self-employment opportunities.

Project officials noted that beyond skill development, facilitating sustainable employment opportunities remains a key priority. Efforts are ongoing to connect graduates with employers and industries to support their transition into the workforce.

This journey—from skill acquisition to employment readiness—represents a promising example of human capital development and youth empowerment in Bangladesh.
