Contributions of Paran Rahman being nationally recognized through Rokeya Padak 2021

Named after Begum Rokeya, a Bengali feminist scholar, “Begum Rokeya Padak” is a Bangladeshi national honour that is given by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. This is awarded to individual women to recognize their exceptional achievement and pioneering contributions in empowering women and addressing women centric issues. 

On December 09, ‘Begum Rokeya Day’ is observed marking the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain, the pioneer of women’s rights in the subcontinent. And it is on this occasion that the Begum Rokeya Padak 2021 had been given to five eminent women.

The award is given to Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran (posthumous) for her outstanding contribution to women empowerment and socio-economic development. Parveen Mahmud FCA, Member of Ghashful Executive Body and the eldest daughter of Paran Rahman received the award.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina distributed Begum Rokeya Padak-2021 award at a function held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital as the chief guest joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

On behalf of the prime minister, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira, MP handed over the award. The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs organized the function on the occasion of the ‘Begum Rokeya Day’.

The other awardees of Begum Rokeya Padak 2021 were- Professor Hasina Zakaria (Bela) for women education, Archana Biswas for women rights, Professor Dr Zinat Huda for women revolution through women education literature and culture, and Dr Saria Sultana for rural development.
