On April 15, 2025, an official inauguration ceremony was held for the pond re-digging project at “Sabail Naksha Pond” in Hajiganj Union, Niamatpur, Naogaon. This initiative is part of the Extended Community Climate Change Project-Drought (ECCCP-Drought) project, implemented by Ghashful with the support of PKSF and Green Climate Fund, aimed at tackling the impacts of climate change in drought-prone areas.
The project is regarded as a sustainable approach to water conservation and boosting agricultural production, providing a reliable solution to address water scarcity during droughts. By improving water availability through the pond’s restoration, local farmers will have access to irrigation support, enhancing crop productivity.
The event was attended by various local stakeholders, including representatives from the local Land Office, Assistant Officer (Land) Mr. Kaushik Ahmed, and Mohammad Sajjad from Hajiganj Union Parishad. Ghashful’s Assistant Director (SDP), KMG Rabbani Bosunia, ECCCP-DROUGHT Project Coordinator Md. Abdullah, and Assistant Manager (Audit and Monitoring) Md. Sajjad Hossain also graced the occasion. Additionally, members of the CCAG team and other project officials participated.
With the re-digging of the pond, the project aims to stabilize local agricultural systems by ensuring irrigation and helping to overcome water scarcity during the dry season. Experts believe that such initiatives will play a crucial role in stabilizing livelihoods for rural communities and fostering climate resilience.
