A human chain and memorandum submission were organized in Chattogram Press Club on 23 May, demanding swift justice and maximum punishment for those involved in the rape and brutal murder of a child named Ramisa in Dhaka, as well as the attempted rape of another child in Bakalia, Chattogram.
The program was organized by the Women and Children Violence Prevention Citizens’ Platform, Chattogram. Around 300 participants—including representatives from development organizations, human rights activists, teachers, parents, and children—joined the demonstration.
Following the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Adviser through the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Zahedul Islam. While receiving the memorandum, he emphasized that preventing such crimes requires not only administrative and law enforcement efforts but also strong social resistance and active civic engagement.
Speakers at the event highlighted the growing concerns around the safety of women and children, noting that even homes are not always safe spaces. They called for ensuring swift justice in all cases of violence, abuse, and murder involving children, and demanded exemplary punishment to deter future crimes.
Participants observed a one-minute silence in memory of Ramisa and wore black badges as a symbol of mourning and protest. Children also raised slogans demanding justice and safety, reflecting a collective call for accountability.
Representatives from various organizations, including Ghashful, joined the program in solidarity, reaffirming the need for coordinated efforts by the government, judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and civil society to end the culture of impunity and ensure a safer environment for all children.
