A significant workshop was held in Badalgachhi, Naogaon, aiming to identify sustainable livelihood solutions for indigenous communities—one of the most climate-vulnerable groups identified in the region.
On 28 May 2025, under the initiative of Ghashful’s CARE project, funded by UNDP and SGP-GEF, a workshop titled “Reducing Climate Vulnerability” was organized at the Ghashful Goborchapa Office.
The primary objective of the workshop was to determine effective climate adaptation strategies and promote sustainable living practices for the indigenous population living in drought-prone areas of Badalgachhi upazila.
Organized under the project Community-based Adaptation for Resilient Empowerment of Adivasi in the Barind Region of Naogaon (CARE), the workshop brought together 35 indigenous men and women, local representatives, and community leaders from Mathurapur and Badalgachhi unions.
Project Manager Nishat Tasnim presented the workshop objectives and engaged with participants to gather their insights and experiences. During discussions, indigenous participants shared that over the past decades, they have faced severe food and water shortages, agricultural disruptions, and livelihood challenges due to climate change.
Mr. Sajal Sarker, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer of Badalgachhi, was present at the workshop and discussed climate-resilient agricultural technologies and drought-tolerant farming practices that could help enhance the adaptation capacity of farmers in the region.
Local representatives highly praised the CARE project, stating, “Such initiatives are bringing real change to the lives of indigenous communities and carry a positive message for the entire region.” The workshop was facilitated by Mr. K. M. G. Rabbani Bosunia, Assistant Director of Ghashful’s Social Development Program.
