Under the theme “Our Strength, Our Planet,” Ghashful, in collaboration with the Sapahar Upazila Administration, observed the 55th International Mother Earth Day on Tuesday, 22 April 2025. Supported by PKSF, the Ghashful SMART Project organized a vibrant rally and a discussion session to raise climate awareness among local communities.
The day’s proceedings began at 10:00 AM with a colorful procession through Sapahar’s main thoroughfare, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Md. Selim Ahmed. The rally concluded at the Upazila Parishad grounds, where Mr. Ahmed delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the urgent need to expand solar energy, organic fertilizers, and eco-friendly farming techniques to meet global renewable-energy targets by 2030. “Ghashful’s SMART Project has already made significant strides in Sapahar, as well as in Niamatpur, Porsha, and Patnitola Upazilas, by promoting these technologies for sustainable local development,” he noted.
In the ensuing discussion, special guest Professor Sharif Ahmed, Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at Sapahar Government College, reminded participants that “this planet is ours to protect, and each citizen must play their part.” Ghashful’s Assistant Director and Project Focal Person K.M.G. Rabbani Bosunia underscored that “achieving the global goal of tripling renewable-energy use by 2030 demands community-level awareness and engagement.”
Project Coordinator Md. Naser Qudrat-e-Khoda added, “Mother Earth Day should be more than a formality—it must mark the beginning of environmentally responsible habits in our everyday lives.” He highlighted ongoing SMART Project initiatives, including solar home systems, biogas plants, and organic-fertilizer production.
The event was attended by Ghashful project staff, members of local environmental clubs, and micro-entrepreneurs. Together, they affirmed the day’s rallying cry: “One tree, one life—every effort counts for our future.”
