On 9 December, a discussion meeting was organized at the Ghashful Clinic in West Madarbari by the Ghashful Community Health Programme to mark Family Welfare Promotion and Service Week. At the event, Medical Officer Dr. Bipasha Siddik delivered an important talk under the theme “Planned Families, Commitment to Safe Motherhood.”
In recent years, Bangladesh has made notable progress in family planning and maternal and child health services. According to UNFPA data, maternal and neonatal mortality rates across the country are gradually declining, reflecting the positive impact of expanded health services and increased awareness.
Speakers emphasized that community level awareness activities are essential to ensure family planning, reproductive health and safe motherhood. Clinic based services, regular counselling and health education play a key role in bringing long term positive changes in society. The main objective of this initiative was to raise public awareness and encourage greater community participation in health services.
They also noted that coordinated efforts among health authorities, NGOs and community based initiatives can further strengthen planned family practices and safe motherhood, particularly in the Chattogram region, contributing significantly to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality.
The event was also attended by Selina Akter, In charge of Ghashful’s CHP Programme, Health Assistant Shikha Barua, Service Provider Nakim Sailuk and other relevant officials.
