Begum Rokeya Award (posthumous) 2021 accredited to Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran, Founder of Ghashful

Founder of Ghashful, Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran was awarded with Begum Rokeya Padak 2021 by Government of Bangladesh in recognition of her contribution to the socio-economic development of women in a virtual presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the Chief guest at the Dhaka Osmani Memorial Auditorium on December 09, 2021. On behalf of late Paran Rahman, Ghashful Executive Committee Member Parveen Mahmood FCA received the medal from State Minister for Women and Children Fazilatun Nessa Indira.

Aftabur Rahman Jafree, the only son of the deceased and Chief Executive Officer of Ghashful, was present at the time. Ghashful founder Paran Rahman was born on June 1, 1940 and died on February 18, 2015. She founded Ghashful in 1972. The activities of Ghashful, a private development organization in Bangladesh, became visible around the catastrophic cyclone of the 1970s, which institutionalized in 1972 and received registration as the first registered NGO in Chattogram in 1978. Through Ghashful, she dreamed of building a non-discrimination, aware, self-reliant Bangladesh by making women, teenagers, children, and the underprivileged people of the society aware and self-motivated to establish universal rights, where the basic rights of all, rich and poor, will be guaranteed.
